ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is an International Standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, with guidance for its use, to enable an organisation to proactively improve its OH&S performance in preventing injury and ill-health. ISO 45001 is intended to be applicable to any organisation regardless of its size, type and nature. ISO 45001 enables an organisation, through its OH&S management system, to integrate other aspects of health and safety, such as worker wellness/well-being. https://www.iso.org/iso-45001-occupational-health-and-safety.html

What are the benefits of using ISO 45001?

An ISO 45001 based OH&S management system will enable an organisation to improve its OH&S performance by:

  • Developing and implementing an OH&S policy and OH&S objectives
  • Establishing systematic processes which consider its “context” and which take into account its risks and opportunities, and its legal and other requirements
  • Determining the hazards and OH&S risks associated with its activities; seeking to eliminate them, or putting in controls to minimize their potential effects
  • Establishing operational controls to manage its OH&S risks and its legal and other requirements
        • increasing awareness of its OH&S risks
  • Evaluating its OH&S performance and seeking to improve it, through taking appropriate actions
  • Ensuring workers take an active role in OH&S matters
  • Demonstrate your commitment to OH&S to clients, suppliers and the community.

How can we help?

We can get your business to the stage where it is ready for certification by working with you to ensure that your business has the necessary systems and structures. Following an initial review, we will map a schedule of work that will bring us to the goal of certification. Once certification is achieved, we can continue to work with your business to maintain certification and the standards built in the process.

In Ireland, all employers are obliged to prepare a written safety statement under the terms of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. Furthermore, there are significant and important obligations in respect of communicating the safety statement and its review/update. If you don’t have a safety statement or if your circumstances have changed considerably since its last review, we can help. Please call us to arrange a no cost review and quotation on 053 9481445. Don’t forget – the Health and Safety Authority have developed a free safety statement preparation tool which is available at www.besmart.ie – well worth a look.
Hazard identification and risk assessment is a key element of any health and safety management system. Our expertise in this area is extensive and our comprehensive approach ensures that our clients can develop their own expertise during consulting projects. This skills transfer is important for the on-going maintenance of client risk assessments.

Health and safety auditing by a third party independent consultant can give you a clear picture of your safety managemeent system and help identify any deficiencies that may exist. Our consultant(s) will tailor our existing audit format to your needs and forward it to you in advance. This allows you time to prepare for the audit and saves time and trouble on the day of the audit. Results are provided with feedback relating to statutory obligations and risk management improvements where identified. If required, our report can also include a suggested prioritisd action plan for the future. This service is available to all sizes and types of business.
VDU’s are one of the most common tools in today’s office environment. As with other equipment overuse or incorrect use of VDU’s can lead to difficulties for operators, including short term aches and pains and long term upper limb disorders. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 -16 contain a list of minimum requirements for workstations. One such requirement is the conducting of a risk assessment of VDU workstations, the environment in which they are located as well as the tasks completed by the operator. Our approach to this type of assessment involves auditing all aspects of the workstation, which includes measurement of lighting, noise and humidity levels. The final report will include detailed assessment on each workstation as well as a general overview and key recommendations. Where appropriate, photographs will be included in the report to illustrate hazards.
The introduction of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 1995 created obligations for clients, designers and contractors in construction projects of all sizes and values. Our Chartered Consultants can assist in the implementation, management and monitoring of safety obligations through all stages of the construction process. Whether you want help conducting periodic site safety audits, inspections and training or assistance in the fulfillment of the role of  Project Supervisor for the Construction Stage (PSCS) we have the competency, experience and skills to help.
