Ladder Safety
Target: Any member of staff whose work involves the occasional or regular use of portable ladders, both step and leaning/upright.
Duration: Half day
Location: Suitably equipped room, removed from normal day to day operations. An area is also required for setting up and using ladders.
A.V. requirements: Digital projector, screen, laptop (provided by Synergy)
Room layout: U-shaped table layout or classroom style is preferable.
Course Tutor(s): Suitably qualified and experienced tutors.

Course Details: The course presents interactive instruction covering the following areas:
- Ladders & Component parts;
- Legislation & Standards;
- Pre-use checks;
- The importance of planning ahead:
- SITE – positioning, stabilising, and protecting other persons & weather conditions;
- TASK – duration of tasks, climbing and descending carefully & loads;
- EQUIPMENT – selecting the right class, material, height and type;
- PERSONNEL – selecting the competent persons to do the task and necessary PPE required;
- Inspection & Records;
- Storage Handling & Maintenance.
Other Information: This course is interactive and requires physical fitness, a head for height and mobility. Potential attendants should ensure that they wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear (with heel) and have weather-proof clothing available if required. A selection of ladders and stabilizing devices which are commonly used must be made available for use and must be in perfect condition.
Certification: A certificate of attendance will be provided for each participant
