Manual Handling
The Manual Handling course is suitable for any employee whose work involves occasional or regular lifting and moving of loads of any description either by hand or with the aid of a mechanical device.
On completion of this course participants will:

- Understand the correct methods of Manual Handling
- Understand their responsibility in carrying out safe Manual Handling practices

- Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 – Employer and Employee Duties, Consultation, H.S.A.;
- Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007-2020;
- Manual handling risk assessments;
- Anatomy of the human spine;
- Musculoskeletal system;
- Posture;
- Top heavy bending;
- Back care;
- Principles of safe lifting (kinetic method);
- Practical demonstration by tutor;
- Practical exercises based on risk assessments;
- Team lifting;
- Fitness for Work;
- Post course evaluation;
- Questions and answers.
Additional Information: Where possible, manual handling risk assessments should be provided in advance of training. It is also very helpful (if possible) for attendees to bring relevant materials handled by them to the course in their work vehicle. This course is interactive and involves a degree of physical fitness and mobility. Attendants should ensure that they are physically safe to undertake training and they wear any safety clothing supplied as part of their work and/or comfortable clothing and footwear.
Certification: A certificate of attendance is awarded to each participant on successful completion of this course. Certificates are valid for three years, in keeping with H.S.A. guidelines on training.
