What is the Safe Pass course?
Safe Pass is a one-day health and safety awareness programme developed by SOLAS, the State agency responsible for further education and training in Ireland. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, construction workers — including apprentices and trainees — are legally required to hold a valid Safe Pass card. On completion you receive a Safe Pass registration card valid for four years. The day is tutor-led, interactive, and designed so everyone leaves with a clear understanding of how to stay safe on site.

To attend, you must be 16 years or older, have a PPS number, and be able to speak and write English.

How much is a safe pass course in Ireland?

How to get a safe pass?
To get a Safe Pass you complete a one-day SOLAS-approved course with a registered provider like WorkSafe Ireland. Book a date at our Gorey centre, attend the full day with your PPS number and photo ID, and your registration card is issued afterwards.
How to apply for a safe pass?
You don't apply separately — you book onto an approved Safe Pass course. Reserve a place on an upcoming WorkSafe Ireland course online or by phone, bring your PPS number on the day, and your card is registered with SOLAS for you.
How long does a safe pass last?
A Safe Pass card is valid for four years from the date of issue. Before it expires you simply repeat the one-day course to renew it.
Who pays for safe pass?
It varies. Some workers pay for their own Safe Pass; in many cases the employer covers the cost as part of getting staff site-ready. We can invoice companies directly for individual or group bookings — just let us know when you book.
Can you fail a safe pass course?
Safe Pass is an awareness programme rather than a pass/fail exam. To be certified you need to attend the full day and take part in the modules. As long as you complete the course, your card is issued.
Does safe pass cover manual handling?
No — Safe Pass is general construction safety awareness and does not certify you in manual handling. Manual Handling is a separate certified course, which WorkSafe Ireland also runs. Many people book the two together; ask us about our Safe Pass & Manual Handling bundle.
What to bring to safe pass course?
Bring photo ID (driving licence or passport) and your PPS number so we can register your card. A pen is handy for notes. That's all you need for the day.
