Safe Pass is the mandatory health and safety awareness programme for anyone working on a construction site in Ireland. Galway runs on it — one of Europe's med-tech capitals with the construction to match, from city-centre builds to jobs in Oranmore, Tuam, Athenry and Loughrea, no worker steps on site without a valid card.
WorkSafe Ireland is a SOLAS-approved Safe Pass provider and PHECC-approved First Aid Response centre, headquartered at Gorey Business Park, Co. Wexford and training Irish businesses since 2008. We won't pretend to have a Galway training centre — we don't. How to book a Safe Pass course — Galway workers' 4 steps
- Book your place. Reserve a date online at our upcoming courses page or call 053 94 81445. Group bookings are welcome on any public date.
- Attend the 1-day course. A SOLAS-approved tutor delivers the full programme in a single day — approximately 8 hours covering site safety legislation, risk assessment, working at heights, vehicles and plant, and accident reporting.
- Pass the assessment. The end-of-day assessment is supervised by your SOLAS-registered tutor, and the workbook is handed out on the day so you can prepare as you go.
- Receive your SOLAS card. SOLAS issues your Safe Pass card by post, usually within about two weeks. It's valid for 4 years on any construction site in Ireland.

Can you do a Safe Pass course online?
Searches for online Safe Pass courses have surged — so here is the straight answer. The initial Safe Pass course must be completed in person with a SOLAS-registered tutor, because the assessment has to be supervised — it cannot be done fully online, and there is no fully online Safe Pass course Galway workers can legitimately book anywhere. Since 2023, existing card holders can renew through SOLAS's computer-based test at an approved centre. For first-time cards and for most renewals, the 1-day tutor-led course remains the route. Safe Pass course Galway — your questions answered
A Safe Pass course with WorkSafe Ireland costs €175 per person for public dates, which includes the full one-day SOLAS-approved course, the assessment and your SOLAS Safe Pass registration card. Group rates for public dates are available on request — call 053 94 81445.
Safe Pass is a 1-day course taking approximately 8 hours, delivered by a SOLAS-approved tutor. You complete the training and the assessment on the same day.
You need to complete the one-day Safe Pass course with a SOLAS-registered tutor. To attend you must be 16 or older, bring photo ID and a valid PPS number, and have written and spoken English. If you do not have a PPS number, contact us on 053 94 81445 before booking.
If your Safe Pass card has not arrived, contact the tutor who delivered your course — they are responsible for ensuring you receive it, and cards normally arrive by post within about two weeks. If you have lost your card, apply directly to SOLAS for a replacement: it costs €32 and takes around two to three weeks, and your card must still be in date to be replaced.
Your Safe Pass card is valid for 4 years from issue. After 4 years you must renew it to keep working on construction sites in Ireland.
