About the course

The Safe Pass Course Dublin workers book with WorkSafe Ireland is the one-day SOLAS health and safety awareness programme. Every general construction worker on an Irish site is required to hold a valid Safe Pass card. The purpose of the programme is to ensure all construction site and Local Authority personnel have a basic knowledge of health and safety, and can work on site without being a risk to themselves or others.

Safe Pass Course Dublin — venue and dates

Public Safe Pass Course Dublin dates run monthly at our Dublin training venue on the Belgard Road in Tallaght (dwec.ie), with free all-day parking and a Luas stop close by. Public courses also run weekly at our Gorey training centre in Co. Wexford. Live dates and booking are on the Upcoming Courses page.

What to bring on the day

All attendees must bring one passport-size photo, photographic ID (for example a previous Safe Pass card or driver’s licence) and their PPS number — a candidate with no PPS number cannot complete the course. Participants must be 16 years or older and able to speak and write English; any literacy difficulties should be raised with us before the course so they can be catered for.

Course length and format

One full day — approximately 8 hours. Doors open from 07:45, training starts at 08:00 sharp, and the day closes around 16:00. It is tutor-led classroom training with written exercises and an end-of-day assessment. Results are submitted to SOLAS, and the card is produced and posted by SOLAS.

Price

Public dates are €175 per person, which includes SOLAS registration fees, the Safe Pass card, stationery, a cooked breakfast roll and refreshments throughout the day. For groups, in-company courses are €1,950 for 4–16 people plus a €32 SOLAS registration fee per participant — delivered at the Tallaght venue or on-site at your workplace where suitable. Employers commonly pair Safe Pass with our Manual Handling Course Dublin, as most Irish sites require both.

One full day — approximately 8 hours. Doors open from 07:45, training starts at 08:00 sharp and the day closes around 16:00, including tuition and the end-of-day assessment.

How long is a Safe Pass card valid? +

A SOLAS Safe Pass card is valid for 4 years from the date of issue. You must sit the renewal course before the card expires to stay site-compliant.

Can I complete Safe Pass online? +

The initial Safe Pass course must be completed in person with a SOLAS-registered tutor, because the assessment has to be supervised. Since 2023, existing card holders can renew online through SOLAS’s computer-based test at an approved centre.

What do I need to bring on the day? +

One passport-size photo, photographic ID (for example a driver’s licence or a previous Safe Pass card) and your PPS number. Without a PPS number the course cannot be completed and SOLAS cannot issue the card.

Who can attend the course? +

Participants must be 16 years or older on the day of training, have a PPS number, and be able to speak and write English. Any literacy difficulties should be raised with us before the course so they can be catered for.

What happens if I do not pass the assessment? +

If a learner does not pass the end-of-day assessment, they can resit the course. The large majority of participants pass first time.

I have lost my Safe Pass card — what do I do? +

Apply directly to SOLAS for a replacement using their online replacement card form. It costs €32 and takes around two to three weeks. Your card must still be in date to be replaced — if it is more than 4 years old it cannot be replaced and the one-day course must be completed again.

Can I book a group Safe Pass course for our company? +

Yes. In-company courses are €1,950 for 4–16 people plus €32 SOLAS registration per participant, delivered at the Tallaght venue or on-site at your workplace where suitable. Email info@worksafe.ie or call 053 94 81445 for group planning.
