What is the Safe Pass course?
Safe Pass is a one-day health and safety awareness programme run under SOLAS, the State agency for further education and training. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, it is a legal requirement for construction workers in Ireland — including apprentices and trainees — to hold a valid Safe Pass card. You'll receive a Safe Pass registration card valid for four years. The day is tutor-led and interactive, so everyone leaves understanding how to stay safe on site.

What is safe pass in Ireland?
Safe Pass is a one-day health and safety awareness programme run under SOLAS for people working on construction sites in Ireland. It's a legal requirement for most site-based workers, and on completion you receive a registration card proving you've done the training.
How much is a safe pass course in Ireland?
WorkSafe Ireland's one-day Safe Pass course in Dublin (Tallaght) is currently €175 per person — this includes your SOLAS registration fee, a breakfast roll and refreshments on the day. In-company group courses are €1,950 (4–16 people) plus €32 per person registration — call 053 94 81445.
Who is exempt from a safe pass in Ireland?
There is no general exemption for people carrying out construction work on site — the requirement applies broadly. If you're unsure whether a specific role needs a Safe Pass, contact us or check the current SOLAS guidance and we'll point you in the right direction.
Is a CSCs card the same as a safe pass?
No. A Safe Pass card shows you've completed general construction safety-awareness training. A CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card certifies you to operate specific equipment or carry out particular skilled tasks. Most site workers need a Safe Pass; CSCS depends on the work you do.
How long does a safe pass last?
A Safe Pass card is valid for four years from the date of issue. Before it expires you repeat the one-day course to renew it.
How do I renew my safe pass?
To renew, book onto a standard one-day Safe Pass course before your current card expires. Attend the full day with your PPS number and photo ID, and a new four-year card is issued. You can book your renewal in Dublin online or by phone.
Can you do safe pass course online?
Safe Pass is a tutor-led course. WorkSafe Ireland delivers it in person at our Dublin and Gorey centres, and live tutor-led online delivery via Zoom, Teams or Webex can be arranged for groups. Contact us to confirm the current options for your situation.
