SOLAS Safe Pass training, serving Cork city & county

Safe Pass is the mandatory health and safety awareness programme for anyone working on a construction site in Ireland — and Cork is the busiest construction market in the country outside Dublin. From pharma and industrial builds in Ringaskiddy and Little Island to housing schemes across Carrigaline, Midleton, Mallow and Ballincollig, no worker steps on site without a valid Safe Pass card.

WorkSafe Ireland is a SOLAS-approved Safe Pass provider and PHECC-approved First Aid Response centre, headquartered at Gorey Business Park, Co. Wexford and training Irish businesses since 2008. We won't pretend to have a Cork training centre — we don't. What Cork workers get from this page instead is the thing most course pages skip: straight answers on price, duration, what to bring and what SOLAS actually allows, plus real weekly course dates at our Gorey Training Centre and monthly dates at our Dublin venue in Tallaght. One day of training, one supervised assessment, and your SOLAS card covers you on any Irish site — including every site in Cork — for 4 years. Every Safe Pass course Cork workers book with us includes the full day's tuition, the supervised assessment and the SOLAS card application in the €175.

How to book a Safe Pass course — Cork workers' 4 steps

  1. Book your place. Reserve a date online at our upcoming courses page or call 053 94 81445. Group bookings are welcome on any public date.
  2. Attend the 1-day course. A SOLAS-approved tutor delivers the full programme in a single day — approximately 8 hours covering site safety legislation, risk assessment, working at heights, vehicles and plant, and accident reporting.
  3. Pass the assessment. The end-of-day assessment is supervised by your SOLAS-registered tutor, and the workbook is handed out on the day so you can prepare as you go.
  4. Receive your SOLAS card. SOLAS issues your Safe Pass card by post, usually within about two weeks. It's valid for 4 years on any construction site in Ireland.

Can you do a Safe Pass course online?

Searches for online Safe Pass courses have surged — so here is the straight answer. The initial Safe Pass course must be completed in person with a SOLAS-registered tutor, because the assessment has to be supervised — it cannot be done fully online, and there is no fully online Safe Pass course Cork workers can legitimately book anywhere. Since 2023, existing card holders can renew through SOLAS's computer-based test at an approved centre. For first-time cards and for most renewals, the 1-day tutor-led course remains the route. Check the official rules at solas.ie and site safety duties at hsa.ie.
