The questions below are the ones Google shows most often for manual handling training in Ireland. Every answer comes from our own published course details, the live booking calendar, or the Health and Safety Authority.
Partly. The theory can be covered online, but a manual handling certificate requires a practical assessment carried out in person — you are observed lifting and handling correctly. WorkSafe Ireland runs the full course in the classroom at Gorey Business Park and at Belgard Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24, with theory and practical application confirmed by written questions and observation. See manual handling course online in Ireland for how the online option works.
Approximately three hours. That is the published duration of the WorkSafe Ireland Manual Handling course, covering the theory, correct lifting technique and the practical assessment.
WorkSafe Ireland lists Manual Handling at €50.00 on the live public course calendar. In-company and group rates are quoted on request — call 053 94 81445. We do not publish other providers’ prices, so compare directly with them.
Three years. Certificates issued by WorkSafe Ireland are valid for three years, in keeping with Health and Safety Authority guidelines on training. Full detail is on our manual handling certificate Ireland page.
Employers have duties on manual handling under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the associated General Application Regulations, which include assessing manual handling risks and providing employees with information and training. The Health and Safety Authority sets out those duties on its manual handling guidance pages — read those for the legal position rather than relying on any provider’s summary.
We are not aware of any free course in Ireland that includes the in-person practical assessment a certificate requires, and WorkSafe Ireland does not offer one. Free online modules can be useful awareness material, but they are not a substitute for an assessed certificate. Our assessed course is listed at €50.00 on the live calendar.
Different providers number the steps differently, so rather than publish our own list we teach the correct methods and have each participant demonstrate them under observation. For the official guidance on assessing and reducing manual handling risk, see the Health and Safety Authority.
If WorkSafe Ireland trained you, email info@worksafe.ie or call 053 94 81445 with your full name and the approximate date and venue of the course and we will check our records. If another provider trained you, they hold your record, not us.
