A first aid course Dublin employers can actually rely on

First Aid Response is the PHECC-accredited standard for workplace first aid in Ireland — the course the HSA recognises. It replaced Occupational First Aid, and since 1 June 2018 it's the only route for newly qualified workplace first aiders.

WorkSafe Ireland is a PHECC-approved First Aid Response centre, training Irish businesses since 2008. Every first aid course Dublin learners book with us is delivered by qualified, experienced trainers with class sizes kept small — up to 8 on public dates — so everyone gets real hands-on practice.

The 3-day FAR course covers the full workplace standard: scene safety, primary patient assessment, Cardiac First Response (CPR and AED), airway management, bleeding, burns and shock, and recognising emergencies like stroke or a cardiac event.

Need basic cover fast? Our Emergency First Aid course runs for €120. Need the full HSA-recognised standard? The 3-day PHECC First Aid Responder course is €325, assessment and certification included.

How to book a first aid course — Dublin workers' 4 steps

Booking a first aid course Dublin employers and individuals can attend takes about two minutes. Here's the whole process, start to cert.

  1. Pick your course. The 3-day PHECC First Aid Responder (€325) is the full HSA-recognised workplace standard. Emergency First Aid (€120) covers the basics. Renewing? The 2-day FAR Refresher keeps your cert alive.
  2. Book your date. Reserve online at our upcoming courses page or call 053 94 81445. Groups of 6+ on the same date get a group rate, and we invoice employers directly.
  3. Train hands-on. Small classes, real practice: CPR and AED, airway, bleeding, burns, shock and medical emergencies, taught to the PHECC standard.
  4. Pass and get certified. A written exam (80% pass mark) plus FAR and CFR skills tests, all on the course. Your PHECC First Aid Responder certificate is valid for 2 years.

Can you do a first aid course online?

Searches for online first aid courses keep climbing — so here is the straight answer. No online-only course meets the PHECC First Aid Response standard.

The assessment is hands-on: a written exam with an 80% pass mark, plus practical FAR and CFR skills tests in front of an instructor. There is no fully online first aid course Dublin employers can rely on for HSA-recognised workplace cover.

Check the standard itself at phecc.ie and workplace first aid duties at hsa.ie.

First aid course Dublin — your questions answered

With WorkSafe Ireland, the full 3-day PHECC First Aid Responder course is €325 and the Emergency First Aid course is €120. Groups of six or more learners on the same date qualify for a group rate, and we invoice employers directly — call 053 94 81445.

A PHECC First Aid Responder certificate is valid for 2 years from the date you complete the course. To stay certified, you complete the 2-day FAR Refresher before your certificate expires — it must still be in date on the days of refresher training.

Employers must provide first-aid arrangements under the HSA's Guidelines on First Aid at Places of Work, including trained first aiders where the risk assessment calls for them. The PHECC First Aid Response standard is what the HSA recognises for workplace first aiders.

They are the same workplace standard under two names. First Aid Response replaced Occupational First Aid, and since 1 June 2018 the HSA only recognises FAR for newly qualified workplace first aiders. Anyone holding an older OFA certificate refreshes to the FAR standard when their certificate is due.

No online-only course meets the PHECC First Aid Response standard. The assessment includes hands-on FAR and CFR skills tests plus a written exam with an 80% pass mark, so the course must be completed in person with an instructor. Treat any fully online first aid cert with caution.

At our Dublin training venue on the Belgard Road, Tallaght (DWEC) — free parking with a Luas stop close by — with further public dates at our Gorey Training Centre, Co. Wexford. Public class sizes are kept small, up to 8 learners, so everyone gets hands-on practice. Book at worksafe.ie/upcoming-courses.

The PHECC First Aid Responder course takes 3 days, and the FAR Refresher takes 2 days. We also run an Emergency First Aid course (€120) for basic workplace cover — see our upcoming courses page for the next dates.

That depends on your risk assessment. The HSA's Guidelines on First Aid at Places of Work require employers to assess their workplace and provide trained first aiders, equipment and procedures to match the risks. Not sure what your workplace needs? Call us on 053 94 81445 and we'll talk it through.
